Step wish
`
Took the Eurostar (train) from Rome to Florence this morning - why is it that the platform you want is the furthest from the station entrance and your car of the train the far end of the train!! Once we got settled and on the way it was a wonderful smooth and comfortable trip - just over an hour & a half long.
Checked into a swank hotel and went to our room to wait for our luggage .... and waited & waited (we wanted things out of the bags before heading out for lunch and exploring). After 40 mins I sent the economist downstairs to ask - he came back reporting that they must have taken them to the wrong room - they were hunting down the bellboy. Mmmm - that's a worry as I imagine someone riffling through my stuff.
Soon we are re-united with our stuff; get what we want and head out for a delicious lunch and a bottle of wine. Then it was onto the truly majestic Duomo. What a sight! So massive that it does not fit into a single frame of my camera - well at least not from a distance I was willing to go to.
After paying my 6 euros I realised I had paid to climb the 463 steps to the Dome!! LOL - I obviously have some sort of step wish!! I waved my walking stick around and explained my mistake ..... they said I could use the ticket to go to the museum instead. The Economist was only complaining last night about not going to the gym so was eager to start the climb. He said he got a bit dizzy near the top .....
I'm sure this bride must have been really cold!!
