Can't walk; but I can fly.....
`
Back in January we decided to cash in some of the manservant's
frequent flyer miles and send myself and the Economist son on a trip to
Italy and London. This is a big year for him - he turned 21 in
February and he finished uni last week.
The flights were booked and hotels being thought about when my foot saga began. My doctor thought we would be cutting it close but that it might be possible so nothing was cancelled.
So I am about to go off to Italy with a limp and a walking stick - tomorrow!
I am so used to going places and being active that I have spent the last week being worried about my limited mobility. I think at this stage I must accept that most of this vacation will be one of savouring the local cuisine and wine industry.
Thank you to my neighbours...... Kate, for some great tips on cities to see and in which order and to Snowy and Sergio for accommodation information and helpful websites and to Anto and ilaria for all their insider information - especially about the trains and weather!
My son landed in LA today. Tomorrow he has to be on a 6am flight to DC where I will meet him at the airport for the flight to Rome. We are visiting Rome, Florence & Milan and then London.
A bit scary but so exciting!!

I'm sure Italy is breathtakingly beautiful in any time of the year.
Please, show and tell us about it, here!
Any way it still sounds like a good time to get to spend and in Italy with the ones you love, slow down and love your time, may be even get yourself a nice fancy walking stick!
BTW...Did I mention that you should take lots of pictures, eat lots of food, and drink lots of wine? 8:-)
Tell your son that The Battle Box guided tour across the road from his hotel in Singapore is well worth a look if he is interested in World War II history.
You should keep your eyes open for a very nice and attractive walking stick, so you can hang it up as a reminder to take care! Also it is great to get peoples attention!
Enjoy!
And be careful
Have a great holiday, and do take care of yourself;))
I'll be waiting posts and photos of your trips:)
a least with a stick you can hit the Italian men whenthey pinch your bum - if you want to of course.
Enjoy this special time
have a great time!
I'm so envious but very glad you are up to this magnificent trip!
Spending time with your son ought to be a real treat, too.
After all this dwon time you've had this seems like a wonderful reward.
Enjoy!
